Beyond Anxiety: Trauma-Informed Education for Misdiagnosed and Misunderstood Chronic Conditions

An evidence-based training designed to help health providers better recognise, understand, and respond to complex, misdiagnosed, and misunderstood chronic conditions—particularly in females assigned at birth—often hidden beneath the label of anxiety. It equips providers with practical tools to reduce medical trauma, improve diagnostic confidence, and deliver more compassionate, patient-centred care.

Learning Goals:

  • Improve recognition of complex multisystemic conditions. 

  • Apply a trauma-informed lens with overlapping symptoms.

  • Increase diagnostic literacy and confidence in identifying signs of under-recognised, gendered, and invisible conditions. 

  •  Utilise a framework to guide interdisciplinary decision-making, reduce medical trauma, and support sustainable care across complex cases.

  • Enhance patient-provider communication and validation strategies to reduce misdiagnosis, foster trust, and improve patient engagement and outcomes.

  • Develop strategies to support provider wellbeing, prevent burnout.
